Most insulation fails the building it’s fitted to.
Too much insulation in Scotland is
-
fitted the same way to every house,
-
the wrong materials for solid stone walls,
-
work measured by how much gets installed rather than whether the home actually performs afterwards.
of external wall insulation jobs inspected in a 2025 national audit had at least one major defect. (National Audit Office, 2025; Public Accounts Committee, 2026)
of internal wall insulation jobs in the same audit showed major defects, almost always because the measure was never designed for the building.
“The problem is rarely the material. It’s that nobody asked whether it suited the wall.”
The fix isn’t more caution. It’s design.
-
Survey the building,
-
work out how it handles moisture,
-
specify materials that work with it,
-
then fit them carefully.
The fix is design, not just installation.
A specialist practice, not a grant chaser.
Rated by homeowners across central Scotland.

01
Designed per property
We design the build-up for your wall and how it’s built, drawing on years of hygrothermal modelling across Scottish wall types, never a one-size-fits-all spec.

The questions people actually ask.
Not when it’s designed right. We use vapour-open materials, lime, wood wool and hemp, and work out how your wall handles moisture before we fit anything. That is the whole point of designing per property.
Calum or Lewis checks your walls on the survey visit, and the system is designed from what they find.
Book Your Free Survey →On a solid-wall job, yes. To insulate the wall properly we strip it back, and existing cornicing, shutters and panelling in those rooms have to be removed and can’t be saved. They can be recreated afterwards by a specialist, which we’ll ask you to arrange, ideally before we start. We can bring in a joiner for replacement panelling if you want it.
Walk us round the rooms with cornicing or panelling at the survey, and we will tell you what comes off and when.
Book Your Free Survey →Often, yes. Vapour-open internal systems are usually the appropriate route, and we have worked in conservation areas. We will tell you honestly what is feasible for your property.
Tell us about the listing or conservation area when you book, so we can check what is feasible at the survey.
Book Your Free Survey →Many measures are funded up to 75% (capped at £7,500, or £9,000 rural), so a lot of homeowners pay only a few hundred pounds. We will tell you exactly what is funded and what you would pay before any work begins.
If Home Energy Scotland confirms you qualify, your application goes in with the written price from our survey.
Book Your Free Survey →Very little. Our crews work tidily and clean up as they go, and most standard jobs are done in a day.
Ask us at the survey how the day runs, from access to clean-up.
Book Your Free Survey →Most loft and underfloor jobs are a single day. Heritage wall systems take longer, the work is more involved and there’s a lot more preparation, and we will give you a clear timeline.
Let us see the job first, and we will give you a clear timeline for your home.
